During the first Titusville City Council meeting of 2024 on Tuesday, Jan. 2, four new councilmen were sworn into office, Tom Chatham, John Frye, Gavin Griffin, and Gary Thomas.
After an invocation by Pastor Phil Taylor, city manager Neil Fratus led the new councilmen in their oaths.
Frye was appointed by council to the mayor position, and Councilwoman Sara Jones was reappointed to deputy mayor.
Don Frasier, a resident and former councilman, said during the public participation part of the meeting, “Congratulations, I’m looking forward to this term. As many of you know, I sat in your seats before. I’m hoping that the next four years will be quite a bit different than what we’ve seen the last four years. We don’t need to spend money on frivolous things.
He continued, “This is a job of responsibility, and you’ve all been chosen … to do this job. So please, go forward, and know this town is with you.”
After the meeting, Chatham said about being elected to office, “I’m excited to work with these folks and see what we can do to continue to better the community.”
Griffin stated, “I’m looking forward to working with the other four on council and to working with all the department heads. I think we’ve got a lot of potential here, and I think it’s time we take it.”
Frye also shared what he is looking forward to, saying, “Just working with the people and making the city better.”
Council also voted to move the meetings to a new day and time. Moving forward, the meetings will be held on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, at 6 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 6 p.m. at Towne Square.
